Whiskey Barrel Stout

Whiskey Barrel Stout  @boulevard_beer

Pours a body of opaque black with a tan coloured head that lasts several minutes which is unusual for this style of beer. The nose is hit with a strong whiff of oak, roasted malts and dark chocolate . I think it was aged in Bourbon barrels since the smell of peat and whiskey spice is missing in the aromas. The taste follows the nose to some degree with notes of dark chocolate, woodiness, dark fruits, molasses, bit of coffee and rounds up with some smokiness. It didn't live up to the expectations of a big, bold and a robust brew. Maybe because one- third of the final blend is freshly brewed beer; the rest is aged up to a year or more as per the brewer's description. Overall , it's a very approachable stout. Very good for a winter night along with spiced cassava chips and pakoda (Sri lankan snack).
